Anyone who has a serious mental illness is entitled to have a free physical health check at their GP Practice every year. It's important to have this annual check-up, because people with serious mental illnesses have an increased risk of developing certain physical illnesses, and have a reduced life expectancy.
GRCC runs a project on behalf of the NHS to help people with serious mental illnesses in Gloucestershire to have the annual physical health checks that they are entitled to.
If you have a serious mental illness, we will write to you on behalf of your GP, encouraging you to have your annual physical health check. We can give you support such as booking the appointment for you, if you wish. We can even come to the appointment with you, if you would like us to.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Summer Vergara, our Annual Physical Health Checks Co-ordinator, via email ahc.grcc@nhs.net or phone 01452 317460.
During the project, we've managed to increase take-up rates for Annual Physical Health Checks from 10% to 80% !
Find out more about the Annual Physical Health Checks from our leaflet below, which you can also download as a pdf.
